Since it has been announced that the World of Warcraft Official Hardcore servers are dropping later this month, I thought it would be a good time to talk about my reasonings for getting into it.
What is WoW Hardcore?
This is a challenge which was created by the players to bring the difficulty and community back into the game. The most basic rule is that if you die you delete that character, with others being you can’t group up for quests in the open world. With the servers now being just for hardcore players you are able to trade through the action house as you are buying from other Hardcore players.
The RPG Element
Ever since I finished playing through Skyrim, I have been looking for an RPG that I can sink my teeth into and this feels like the perfect one to do it with. I love the feeling of starting with nothing and grinding through the levels with the added jeopardy that if I die, you delete the character. As the challenge is more designed as a solo adventure the game turn into an RPG for the majority of the time. This means each drop feels more impactful and valuable, choosing the right professions becomes more important as they will more than likely save your life more than once during your adventure. You are not trying to level as fast as possible so you get to pick and choose when you complete a quest or maybe wait a bit a try to level your professions instead.
Difficulty/Achievement
Getting to level 60 in regular classic is quite an achievement but without a death is on another level. Players who have played classic know how many deaths you are able to rack up through playing normally so to be able to get to the max level without one is quite an achievement. Playing this type of slower paced game is not for everyone but it’s something I want to achieve on a game ive been playing for 13 years. The difficulty comes when you realise that any enemy at your level has the chance to kill you so you have to take each one seriously which can get draining when you think of how many mobs you need to kill to reach that special milestone.

Nostalgia
This part is going to be the shortest, but the reason I am going to play on these servers is because I love this game and the world too. I had a bit of a break from this game while they came out with the official servers and now, I can’t wait to get back on the grind.
Earlier this year I tried to get to 60 but failed around level 20 so I’ll make sure to update this post when I get to that magical level 60.
